Federation of Nepal Beekeepers is a national Umbrella organization. It was established in 1999 with the name of Nepal Beekeepers Association in Bharatpur, Chitwan in the initiation and common effort if 223 beekeepers from eight different Districts. the Federation has expanded its District branches in five Development Regions identified as potential for commercialization in beekeeping .The aim of the Federation establishment is to organize the scattered grass root level beekeeper and to advocate polices, lobby and enhance capacity for quality entrepreneurship. Besides the federation aims to create self employment opportunities at grass root level for income generation and reducing poverty in the country.
Nepal is the most potential country for beekeeping, enriched with diversified flora and fauna where more then 37% of the land is covered with natural forest with herbal/medicinal plants. Nepal is the only country where you can enjoy honey harvested from 200m to 3500m from the sea level. The diversity of the country has given various five species of honeybees. The traditional way of farming has where as majority of the farmers practice organic way of farming which has created opportunity for producing uni-floral quality honey in Nepal.
Objectives
- Organize the scattered grass root level beekeepers for commercialization of beekeeping
- Enhance capacity of the beekeepers through training, exposure and dissemination of beekeeping techniques developed nationally and internationally
- Support to market quality based quantity honey bee products through addition of value chain
- Advocate and lobby on behalf of the beekeepers over national polices developed
- Support the federation for institutional development
- Support and aware over importance of pollination, pasture and post harvest management for quality production
- Advocate the importance of honey bees in agriculture production, environment conservation and human nutrition to GOs, INGO's, Public and related stakeholders
- Contribute in the national economy through the management of natural resources
